President's Update

If you missed our last Bead Society meeting on March 17th you missed a lot of exciting happenings, not to mention Kathy Taylor's mint brownies - thank you Kathy again for bringing the goodies!

Thanks to Linda Lord we have a new meeting place - the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, 307 Old Main Street, South Yarmouth, MA. We feel that this space will get us more attention and attract more members who enjoy beading as much as we all do. There are many classes, art exhibits, dances and other events that take place at the Cultural Center attracting other artists and people with like interests. The Cultural Center is also closer for some.

Our first night at the Cultural Center will be April 21st. Linda advised that we would have the Great Hall to start out with. There are plenty of outlets, tables, heat in the winter, air conditioning in the summer. We will have the space on Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. The earlier starting time will be for getting back to the social hour that we had in previous years.

Things are in full swing for the Mini Maker Faire on April 30th from 10:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Mashpee Middle School. Set-up will start at 8:30 a.m. It was decided that Bead Society members can either donate a piece of jewelry that they have created to be sold with the proceeds going to the Bead Society or if you volunteer for the Mini-Maker Faire you can sell your own pieces with a 15% charge of the item price to go towards paying the $25 table fee. I have not heard back if we will be able to hold a raffle as of yet. We are the first group to propose such a thing.

Please get in touch with me if you are interested in helping out with the Maker's Faire. As we get closer another e-mail will go out with donation specifics (i.e., we are working out the specifics of the space and how we are going to exhibit/show our pieces). A formal pamphlet is being worked on by Kathy Taylor that will include information about the Bead Society on one side and a sign-up form on the other side for membership sign ups.

The last piece of news is the new Facebook page for the Bead Society. Janna was instrumental in setting this up for our group. Thanks again for setting that up Janna. Here is a shortcut for it. or google Bead Society of Cape Cod. Either way you have to have a Facebook account to see it. Join and add anything beady - questions you might have, a project you are working on, something you have finished, share, share, share!!!

Until next and hope to see you in April at our new space!!

Shelley
